2018 - Fantasia

Inspired by the “fantasy wines” of Tuscany, Fantasia (fahnta ZEE ah) is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet with its weight provides good structure and balance allowing the Sangiovese to retain its bright tones. Medium-bodied, it finishes with great flair and length.

Fantasia also goes great with Italian foods such as Veal Saltimbocca and Pasta alla Norma.

Tasting Notes A symphony of dark fruits such as cherries, plum, and black raspberries is met with pomegranate, cranberries, violets, and dried sage. Hints of sweet tobacco, cocoa, and minerality are entwined with fruit and spice. Medium-bodied with well-structured tannins. Vintage Notes February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating a plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer was followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat, which created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.
