2018 - Vineburg Chardonnay

Sweet Meyer Lemon, honeysuckle and flinty mineral aromas define the fruit character of our Sonoma Carneros vineyard, Vineburg. Weekly bâtonnage gives the wine a silky texture, and small stainless steel barrel fermentation highlights the vibrant, refreshing character of the wine made from this vineyard.

Vineburg Chardonnay
Vintage Notes February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating a plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer was followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat, which created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. Volume was great, up 20-30% increase over average crop quantity. Winemaker's Notes The wine was 100% barrel fermented, with 93% in stainless steel barrels and 7% in 60-gallon French oak barrels. All barrels were stirred once a week for five months. 21% of the blend completed malolactic fermentation. Tasting Notes Delicate aromas of lemon peel, flint and bright minerality carry over to the palate, with ripe honeydew melon on the finish.
