2017 - Henry Cabernet Sauvignon

In 1877, German immigrant Henry Hagen purchased a Napa vineyard site and named it Cedar Knoll. This was the first vineyard to be planted in the area which would later be known as the Coombsville AVA.

In 1988, Silverado purchased 170 acres of the site, replanted vines, and named it Mt. George Vineyard after the volcano which created the deep, gravelly soils and intensity of place that volcanic wines are known for. Our GEO Cabernet Sauvignon is named for and crafted exclusively from the fruit of Mt. George.

Each year we select distinctive blocks of an extraordinary field selection from this same vineyard and create a special single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in Henry’s honor.

Vintage Notes From abundant winter rains to cool spring weather, warm summer temperatures and October’s wildfires, 2017 is a memorable vintage. Plentiful winter rains helped refresh our vines and led to a cool, mild spring. Due in part to these warmer temperatures, 90% of Napa Valley’s grape tonnage was harvested before the wine country wildfires began. Based on Silverado’s house wine style, we typically pick early and were fortunate to have 100% of our fruit harvested with no smoke impact. Tasting Notes Sweet earth and spice aromas and flavors of fennel, green peppercorn, gingerbread, graphite, sweet plum and blackberry. Accents of vanilla and toasted oak. Medium-bodied with a broad mid-palate and good fruit
